Her Insulin Pump Came!

I forgot to tell you guys that Sydney's pump came in the mail last week! We get trained tomorrow on how it works and how to insert it. It is really overwhelming to be going through this stuff. It seems like we just got the hang of the shots. We figured it out and since Feb 25, Sydney's day of diagnosis, she has had over 900 shots. She is such a trooper!

All the equipment came in two 9 lb boxes. Looking through all the stuff and reading through the huge manuals, I will say it is a bit intimidating. I know we will feel somewhat more confident after training though. One thing I do know is she will go from needing 2 types of insulin to only needing 1 type of insulin. That is good...one less rx to deal with. :D

The thought of having her wear these tiny IV type things 24/7 makes me a little worried. I can't even put my finger on what it is that makes me nervous. It just all seems so invasive. Plus this is a lot of technology and, as we all know, technology can malfunction. Overall, I have read wonderful things about kids who are what we call in the diabetes world call "pumpers." I guess just like with anything new, it takes time to adjust! I will let you guys know how training goes! We have wonderful diabetes educators and a phenomenal pediatrician and I know we are in good hands.

~All the equipment. The picture doesn't do it justice...it is a lot of stuff!
~This is the actual pump. It is about the size of a pager. They didn't have pink so, of course, we got the next more girly color, purple. :D

WOW!! That is crazy, I can't believe she has had 900 shots. What a strong little girl. You are lucky to have such a sweet heart on your hands. I'm excited and scared for you all at the same time. I can't imagine having to deal with all of that. But, if anyone can do it, it's you. Good Luck! We will be praying for your family!
