Wow Look at This!

Last night we had an activity with the young women in our church (12-18 years old). The theme was recognizing their individual worth. We talked about how the worth of a soul is great in the sight of God. We did a shoe theme for the activity based on the "sole" of a shoe. It was funny that my assignment for the activity was to turn nutter butter cookies into little shoes and find little "shoe boxes" for the cookies. Well, clearly, the gals who helped organize this event didn't realize that the creative bone in my body happens to be smaller than the tip of my pinky finger. I have a love/hate relationship with crafts. I wish I were crafty because I love cute stuff. Unfortunately, I have not been blessed with that talent; therefore, I also hate them. Because of this dilemma, I enlisted the help of one of my super creative friends who wishes to remain anonymous. So for the purpose of this post, I will just call her "Jennifer." "Jennifer" gave me some great ideas for the nutter butter cookies. So my task began...

I looked at my enemy who was smirking at me in all his peanut-buttery goodness. Taunting me and reiterating the fact, which I already knew, that I should just give up. I am not a crafty gal.

~But I did not give into his taunting. I tackled the task and this is the finished product. I turned Mr. Nutter Butter's smirk into what looks an awful lot like baby booties but, nevertheless, I finished the product!

By this time I was feeling mighty proud of myself and decided to tackle an even larger project. I felt our activity night would not be complete without a shoe-shaped cake. I know what you are all thinking, "She must be mad out of her mind." My answer to that is--maybe I am but I still attempted the cake. I, once again, enlisted the help of my anonymous friend, "Jennifer". I baked the cake and then, while attempting to remove it from the pan, the cake broke. So I baked another and stuck it in the freezer. The next morning my husband cut the cake in the shape of a shoe. I mixed the frosting with food coloring and began frosting the cake. Then "Jennifer" came over and did all the fancy work for me including, but not limited to, the wording, the piping on of the stars, inserting the licorice and decorating the flower. The finished product, before it was consumed by ravenous teenage girls, looked like this...

Yesterday I accomplished a task that many, including myself, deemed impossible. I am the person who once made a bean bag that, upon completion, lost all of its beans. I am also the person who sewed a button on my pants that, within the hour, popped off at a high school boys basketball game. (I am still grateful the home ec teacher was there and took me to her classroom and sewed the button back on. That wasn't awkward at all.) I won't even get into my scrap booking fiascos with my college roommates. I could go on and on with my crafty faux-pas stories, but I won't. Anyway, you can imagine my elated state when these projects went, basically, without hitch. Of course the major hangup was my fault when the first cake broke in half but lets forget about that. I need to give a shout out and a great big thanks to "Jennifer", without whom, this bragging post would not be possible. Thanks my friend. :D
