Museum and Expos

Well I haven't had much time to blog about some of our latest adventures so I am cramming them into one post which, I warn you, will be a long one. Last Friday Sydney's school went to the dinosaur museum and learned all about dinos! She had a great time! Morgan and I were lucky enough to tag along as well. Morgan had a great time!

After the museum and after Loren got home from work, we zipped off for a little weekend get-away. We had the opportunity to go a Diabetes Expo. We learned some cool new things in the diabetes world and we got 2 new glucometers as well as some other fun, free goodies. The girls favorite part was staying in the hotel. That is always a treat! At the expo we also learned about some relatively new procedures that could possibly become a standard procedure to cure diabetes at some future date. One of these procedures is called an islet cell transplant. At the University of Minnesota (I think) the lady told us she has a few patients who had this treatment and they have been off insulin for 8 years. However, it's still in the research phase and not a viable option at this point. The exciting thing is where the technology is headed--that's great news!! Here are some pics from this fun event!
~In order to win a prize, Sydney spun the wheel and got asked a question related to diabetes. Everyone was very impressed that Syd knows her stuff. Go Syd!

~Mom and the girls waiting for the youth forum to begin. Syd asked the panel (all kids with Type 1) if it is scary to go to school because she is nervous about what the kids will think when she has diabetes in kindergarten. The panel did a great job talking to her. It was a lot of fun!

~Dad and the girls...notice Sydney's thumbs up? She had a fun time.
~Of course the girls silly faces could be because after the expo we were taking them to Chuck E. Cheese...where a kid can be a kid!
The girls have been begging us to go to Chuck E. Cheese and the TV promotes that restaurant (I use that term very loosely) all the time. So we promised the girls that after the expo they could go and meet Mr. Chuck E. himself! Overall, it was a great weekend!

Davis LOVES dinosaurs - I bet the girls had a blast at the museum. I am glad that you guys were able to go to the Expo. I imagine it is so good for Syd to meet other kids with diabetes. She is an amazing little girl. We avoid CEC if at all possible but we occassionally give in to the begging.

Where is the dino museum-in Pokie? Looks like lots of fun! I love how Sydney was such a little expert on Diabetes-what good parents you are to help her understand even though I wish she didn't have to go though it! Both of your girls are so cute! Glad you got to get away!

I loved Chuck E. Cheese as a kid but as a parent I am so glad we don't have one in town (isn't that awful).
