Fun Weekend

Well life has been busy! Instead of a bunch of commentary---I'll spare you---I will just post a bunch of pictures! Sydney had a doctor appointment today with her pediatric endocrinologist (more about that below). This particular doc happens to be 2 1/2-3 hours south of here. On Saturday there was also a Walk to Cure Diabetes in this area. Since Stacey is one of my super duper friends and works for JDRF, we decided to make a weekend of it and go to the walk. We also got to bbq at Tib's house Sunday evening and had a blast. Sydney has a crush on Tib's 10 year old son Ethan. She has been talking about him allll day. Enjoy the pics! They aren't in a great order.

~Me, Tib and Stacey at Tib's bbq. Fun girls and fun times!

~Sydney and Ethan. He also has Type 1..diagnosed at age 4. They have the same minimed pump...aww now that's fate. :-)

~Morgan on Tib's swingset. She loved it. AND Tib got this pic of morgan both smiling AND looking at the camera. That is a difficult feat!

THE APPOINTMENT
We go to this doctor once a year. He specializes in Type 1 Diabetes in kids. He is great and we love the advice he gives us. But it is a long drive for this appointment so we only make it once a year...maybe more if we run into issues. They always take her A1C and then look through her numbers and help us make changes. Lately we have had ISSUES with her numbers. They bounce from the 40s all the way to the 400s. It has been very frustrating. I was scared to get her A1C but it was great 6.8. The problem is that Syd has this A1C because she is having a lot of really low lows that offset her really high highs. As far as her major organs are concerned, esp her heart, it would be healthier for Sydney to remain at a 200 average than to be jumping around so much. Those big bounces damage her heart. So obviously we want to try and reduce the number of those as much as we can. He gave us some great tips and we will see if we can't get a little more control. Maybe being in school will help. Anyway here are some pics from this.

A1C chart so you know what the number means in blood sugar lingo.
5.0--------100
6.0--------135
7.0--------170
8.0--------205
9.0--------240
10.0------275
11.0------310

~Getting her blood pressure at the appointment.

~Me holding her while she gets her blood drawn. She is so good at this though. She doesn't move! She sits so still. I'm proud of her!

~Morgan being the "library girl" and reading us a book while we wait for the doc.

~This is why I love Diabetes events. They provide the carb counts! That makes my life so much simpler when giving Sydney her insulin.

Well that's all for now! Hopefully life will slow down a bit for us because I have some blog posts I need to catch up on!!

What a fun weekend...minus Sydney having to have a blood draw. That is a great number on her A1C and I am glad to hear that the doctor had some tips that will help with her extreme jumps.

I also love the Carb Count chart, I wish I could have one of those everywhere I go and it would make life easier all the way around.

I love the picture of Morgan on the slide your girls are just beautiful!!

I know all about the long drive. Tristan pediatric endo is 2 to 2/12 hours away. We see him every 3 months during spring/summer and then every six months to avoid the bad weather of winter. It sucks! ;)

Good luck getting her numbers in check. I know how frustrating it is when you have those big jumps.

Have you ever tried to Emla cream for her blood test. We use it for Tristan and it works like a charm!
