Lack of Energy

Well I don't have the energy to put a nice, wonderful post together. I guess that's why I've been lacking in my posting lately...and my responding to all my favorite blogger's blogs. :)

I've felt like I've emotionally checked out these past few days. You know what I mean...where you put on "the face" just to get through the day. I guess that makes it sounds more depressing that what I mean but it's been a rough week. Syd's numbers are all over the place. They have been consistently in the 3 and 400s. We give her insulin with her pump and she climbs even higher. Her ketones have been off the charts high. I can't thank her CDE Nancy enough for letting me bug her all weekend (even last night at 11 pm). I just don't know what to do. You get in a rhythm with this disease and then it throws you for a loop. It's like fighting a never ending war. 2 nights ago our CDE wanted us to give her an injection of insulin instead of using her pump. It brought her numbers down and all was well...until that active insulin wore off then she climbed high again. So what is happening is her pump isn't lowering her numbers but injections do. We are blessed with an awesome pedi clinic that has one of the pediatricians available 24/7. I have been on the phone with them as well and last night about 11:30 they told us to disconnect her pump completely and go back to injections for a few days to see if we can get things under control again. The doc called in a prescription of Lantus and Loren picked it up at midnight last night. Sooooo we are doing injections with every meal again.

I think you forget how flexible the pump makes your life. It is so easy to correct a high...you just push buttons! Now it's a big, drawn out tantrum because each meal and each correction means another shot. But Syd is a trooper. I can't remember the last time her numbers have been THIS out of whack. Mostly high. But today at 4 she was 327. I gave her a correction of insulin and an hour and a half later she was 40. Hopefully we get things "fixed" soon. Thanks for all the well wishes on facebook. I'll update again later.

I hope you get things figured out with Sydney! She's a tough little girl! What clinic do you go to that has a 24 hour pediatrition on call? that would be so nice! Good luck! We'll keep her and you in our thoughts and prayers!

Hang in there! I'm sorry things have been so tough - shots are no fun. Hopefully, things will be better tomorrow for you and for Sydney. :-)

Holy cow! After the long week you had, now you have this! No wonder you weren't very chatty with anyone (except Jessie) today. I know what you mean though...I feel like I've checked out too. Sometimes trials do that to us. Take your downtime that you need. Take care.

I with you friend. I'm in my funk and I'm desperate to get over it. L's pump line broke off his pump at a field trip and I had to give him a shot. HE HAD A FIT!!! When I change his pump set...not a word. But one shot and all is chaos! My boys are prone to a build up under their skin that makes it hard for their insulin to absorb. We have to move the set around A LOT, making sure to let the last place heal before we even get close to it again. Are you giving her shots in her arm? And do you do her sets somewhere else? It's the only theory I got. Email me if I'm making no sense...

Good luck! Poor girl...shots bite!

These ruts are part of the difficult reality that IS T1D. It's so easy to get comfortable when things are going well...you get all relaxed and then **WHAM** there's a harsh reminder that diabetes is still in the game.

When Addy needed to go back to shots after her pump when crazy last year, it was such an ordeal!!! I feel your pain.

I think you should call the pump company. You can pretty much justify that it's not delivering corrections correctly! They'll get a new pump to you overnight and you can bid the shots farewell :)

Just be sure to write down her settings...

Oh that's horrible!!! I know how much we depend on the pump, going back on shots would be really hard. Hang in there, you are doing a great job!! Tell Sydney that Tristan and I think that she is really really brave!!!

What a tough weekend for Sydney and all of you. I remember having to give myself injections after every meal and correction doses and how much I did not enjoy it. So I cannot imagine how much harder it is for Miss Sydney who is just a cute little girl!!

I hope things get straigtened out and she starts feeling better ASAP!!

I am sure as the mom you are stressed out and worried as we all would be. hang in there and we will keep you in our thoughts and prayers as well!!
