Sorry for being MIA this week. Been a busy one! Joanne's letter showed up in the paper as well! Nothing else so far. To answer many questions...I don't know how to read them online. Maybe if you bought a subscription? I don't know. But I have saved the papers and I plan on typing them out here at some point.
Before dinner Sydney was acting a little off. One of those moments where you say, "time to break out the glucometer." She was very tired, grumpy, emotional. I actually thought she was going to be low because it was right before dinner and we were eating a little later than normal. She was actually quite high--365. That's when I had a moron mom moment and I realized that yesterday, not today, was her site changing day. So we changed her site. Bolused for dinner. Ate. Then when she had to go to the bathroom I thought we should check her ketones. My D mom friends will understand the pic below. For those unfamiliar with ketones I will explain. This is a stick that you dip in a urine sample. You want it to be light colored--the left of the bottle. Sydney's was very dark. That means high ketones. Ketones can be very dangerous for a diabetic. But we are just going to watch her closely and keep monitoring her ketones. Hopefully they go down through the night so we don't have to make a hospital trip. We are going out of town in the morning so I'm *really* hoping they go down. So wish us luck! This is actually the darkest I've ever seen a ketone stick. Usually she is moderate or low.

Oh...bummer....I'll bet the large ketones are just due to a high BG. Praying they go away so that you can continue on with your plans!!
I hope they go down and that she is not getting sick. We have struggled with ketones this week too. We have a ketone blood meter and Nate's were 2.2 which I believe would have been on the dark side of the strip too! He was good and drank lots of water and they have been staying down.
I hope you have a good trip I will keep my fingers crossed for a ketone free morning!! :-)
Yeah for Joanne!!!
BLECH for ketones.
That picture made me nauseated....fluids, fluids, fluids...and keep up the good work!
Ketones are like annoying relatives, they are really hard to get out of the house. But once they disappear...nirvana!
Good luck! Thinking of you friend!
Uh-oh. That strip is practically glowing. Here's hoping ketones go away and bg starts behaving. Will be thinking of you!
shamae sending prayers your way that those ketones go down . Take care and have a good trip .
Ugh, I hate it when the ketone monster comes to visit and won't go away... I have never seen a ketostix so dark!
Is there a way you could mail me the section of the paper that the letter is in? Yes, I'm a dork, but it's something I would like to show Elise one day. Let me know and I'll give you my address.
Glad to hear more letters made it in!
Hope those ketones get outta there before your trip..I think we can all say with confidence, ketones stink!
Oh, I hope they went down on their own! So scary for you guys! I'm always so impressed at how strong & brave Sydney is & also you guys as her parents...you guys are awesome!
I am sorry! We went years without ketones - YEARS...then all of a sudden this year they have more than made up for it.
I feel your pain. I really really do.
