Can Diabetes Make You Smile?

Amidst all the scares and sleepless nights and shots, etc, etc, that come along with this disease, can we find joy in things that we may deem our worst nemesis? And, more importantly, can we teach our T1 kids to find these little silver linings?

Of course we can! Here are a few things that have made me smile lately...

1) After a "Stranger Danger" lesson, "Mom if I ever got kidnapped I would just use my tubing on my pump to wrap up the bad guy!"

2) "Mom, whats a revolution?"
"When a group of people get together with one idea to make a change."
"Well what if we got a bunch of Type 1 kids together and let our pancreases have a revolution for better blood sugars?"

3) "Mom now that we are in bunk beds, you will have to stand on your tippy toes to check my sugar at night! I bet that will look funny when you have a big ole baby belly!"

4) "Site changes stink mom!! Just like dad's feet!"

5) "My sugar is 267. I guess Daisy (her pump) needs a time out for not doing her job!"

These are just a few of the things Syd has said regarding her T1 that have made me smile. Now it's your turn...what makes you smile in spite of everything else that T1 encompasses? Or, if you have no T1 affiliation, what just makes YOU smile? :-)

Love this!

Z cracks me up every time he asks me how many carbs are in certain foods, like he has any clue what it means! Too cute!

Thats what I was going to say. It cracks me up when Avery looks at the back of a box or on a bag and says "Mom, I think these have 3 carbs." Everything is 3 carbs to him. I wish! I love watching him want to learn about all of it. He wants to learn how to take care of himself.. That makes me smile :)

Your post made ME smile. :)

I laugh every time my kids say "blucose" tabs instead of glucose tabs.

Too cute!

I smile when I watch my daughter walk around the pool with her pump cliped onto her bathingsuit. She's not embarassed or self-conscious at all. That makes me so proud.

Oh, goodness, you have adorable children! Syd sounds like a real gem. The only thing that comes to my mind at the moment that is diabetes related...Lily always calls her insulin pump her "punk". Makes me smile every time!

I had to laugh about My Sydney and the things she thinks of when it comes to looking on the bright side.

The one about her site changes and her daddy's feet is so funny!!

Here's my favorite quote from my 4 year old.."Mommy, why can't they find the cure for Ally's diabetes? Somebody must have hid it REALLY good!"
