Syd's Walk for a cure 2010

Dear Family and Friends—

It’s that time of year again to participate with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundations (JDRF) and walk for a cure. As most of you know, our 6 year old daughter Sydney was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 4. This will be our 3rd year participating in a great cause that is very close to our hearts. Thanks to all of you, we have been able to raise money toward a cure for Sydney and the millions of other kids and adults who live with Type 1 on a daily basis. This disease affects the whole family and we have experienced this first hand.

Last year before Christmas we took Sydney and Morgan to see Santa. After they got done visiting with him we were preparing to leave when Morgan said, “Mom I forgot to ask him for 1 more thing!” So we walked back to Santa and she asked if he would, “please bring a cure for her sister.” Santa looked to me for an explanation and I told him that her big sister has Type 1 Diabetes. Santa bent down and told Morgan that he would see what he could do. However, we all know cures don’t come from Santa, they come from people like you. Every donation, no matter the amount will help. 85% of every dollar donated to JDRF goes straight toward research for that cure.

If you have ever wondered where your money goes, let me share with you an exciting announcement JDRF made earlier this year. They have partnered with the insulin pump company Animas to develop the first fully functioning artificial pancreas. This development will revolutionize the way we manage Type 1 Diabetes. Thank you for your continuous support which has allowed this new technology to progress.

So please take a minute to donate to Sydney’s walk team, Sydney’s Soldiers. Click HERE to visit her fundraising page. With your help, someday Sydney will be able to say, “I used to have Type 1 Diabetes.”

Sincerely,

Loren, Shamae, Sydney, Morgan, and baby :-)

This is the video I made last year for Syd's walk. It was very well received so I decided to use it again. Just know that she is a year older with more shots and finger pokes under her belt. She is our little soldier.

Good luck. I just donated on Syd's page but also submitted for a matching gift from my company so hopefully my gift will be doubled.
