Camping Extravaganza!

I need to apologize for my lack of comments on my blogging friend's blogs. BUT we have had a very busy summer and this trip was no exception! Before the many pictures, let me first share with you the 10 things I learned camping this year.

1) Camping while being around 5 months pregnant is more difficult than I expected...but still fun.

2) Bears in your campground lead for a scary night.

3) What's even more scary is when your sister and brother-in-law leave their dogs food out...5 feet from your tent...when we all were aware that a bear had been harassing the campground. Were they trying to send us a subliminal message? (Loren found the dog food and put it in our car. ;)

4) The person who invented Twizzlers resealable bags is a genius.

5) The night before the bear was captured my pregnant bladder got the best of me about 1 a.m. I didn't want to walk all the way to the bathroom/outhouse because, well there was a BEAR roaming around, so Loren held a flashlight a few feet from the tent so I could do my business. Afterward it was about 1:30 a.m. and we heard the bear trap the fish and game had set up go off. Loren then said in a smirking voice, "Hmm how does it make you feel to know you were peeing while a bear was roaming around inside camp?"

6) In case any of you were wondering that same thing, it made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

7) Blood sugars rarely cooperate on a camping trip. We had everything from the 40s up to the 500s.

8) Chili dogs taste better when made over an open fire.

9) So do marshmallows.

10) The last thing I realized this camping trip is that next year we will have a baby in tow as well. It still seems so surreal to me!

And now, onto the pictures!

~Daddy and the girls setting up our tent.
~Aunt Krystal and the girls on a little walk to visit the bear trap!

~The bear trap. Baited with a dead salmon.

~This is the next morning. The picture isn't great but if you look close you can see the outline of the bear.
~Ready for bed!
~In the morning around the campfire...waiting for some hot chocolate.
~Syd trying to chop down a tree with a stick.
~Morgan with her dirt and dump truck. Does life get much better? :-)
~Walking to the river to throw in some rocks. They are little characters.
~What a great dad...showing his girls how to make walking sticks with a hatchet. I'm happy to report, there were no injuries during this undertaking.

~The lake where we caught 2 fish. It was so beautiful...I love the reflection off the lake.

~Morgan fishing. She can even cast on her own. Loren kept trying to teach her and she wasn't getting it. Finally she said, "AH! Just let me do it myself!" That's when we watched her throw a perfect left-handed cast. Loren was trying to teach her right-handed ways. We forgot Miss Morgan is a lefty through and through.
~Syd with her fish catching machine. :-)
~One of the pretty little Brook Trouts we caught.
Overall, it was a fun trip but I am very glad this was our last camping trip of the summer. The girls cried when we left, which leads me to think they had a great time as well.

I cried when they left too! And when you left of course. :) There was no subliminal messages! I'm sorry we left bear bait next to your tent! Thank goodness for that busy-bee husband of yours! Loves!

Camping trips ROCK!!! Nothing beats things cooked over an open fire or waking up in the morning to the great outdoors!!!!

I loved the pictures and the views and was trying to guess where you were. I thought Yellowstone at first but I am guessing I am wrong after seeing more photo's.

That was a lovely story about the bear and I remember camping when I was 5 months pregnant with Aidan and there was a wolf wandering through camps..not as scary as a bear but I did make Jim wake-up and come with me!!!

Thanks for sharing and the last photo of Loren with his fish made me so jealous to get out and go fly fishing again :)

Posting comments....no time for that either around here! :) As you can see, I am little behind myself!!!! LOVE all the great photos....and your girlies are just too dang cute out camping! I went camping when I was 6 months preggo with the twins and thought I would die! There is no way I would have gone out with a bear roaming.....I would have just wore a depends! KIDDING! But really, I would have been terrified! You are awesome!!!! And camping with a baby is SOOO much fun {said with great sarcasm!} and I am super excited you are having another little baby soon!!!!!!!
