Our Big News...

Most of my blog readers know about our life with Type 1 Diabetes. Our oldest daughter Sydney, who is now 7, was diagnosed when she was only 4 years old. She has always taken a positive, proactive approach to her diabetes management and understands the realities of her disease. As her parents, we have tried very hard to educate more people about what Syd's life with Type 1 is like. Many of you may remember this video I created 2 years ago that has gotten regional attention from our JDRF chapter and many of their sponsors. Please watch it again here...

Another neat thing associated with JDRF is the opportunity for the Children's Congress. This is a little more about the Congress and why it is so important and integral to our cause for a cure.

"Every two years, JDRF International Chairman Mary Tyler Moore and over a hundred children with type 1 diabetes gather in Washington, D. C. to meet face-to-face with some of the top decision-makers in the U.S. government. The children, ages 4 to 17, represent all 50 states and the District of Columbia. As participants in JDRF's Children's Congress, they have a unique and empowering opportunity to help Members of Congress understand what life with type 1 diabetes is like and why research to find the cure for diabetes and its complications is so critical."

I got a call today saying that Sydney has been chosen to be one of the delegates from our state this year! She will go to Washington DC in June with either Loren or myself. (She told me today she wants her daddy to go with her.) They will meet with the top decision makers in Washington as well as President Obama himself! We are going to balance the funds and see if we can swing a trip where the whole family gets to go to D.C.

It is huge news because we get to do some great work for a cure. And Sydney gets this once in a lifetime opportunity to talk about something she is very passionate about. We are so proud of her and so excited for this honor in finding a cure for Type 1 Diabetes! It still infiltrates every part of our life. Even while enjoying our new baby and waking up with Hadlee 3 or 4 times a night still involves "low" nights or "high" nights with Sydney where we are balancing checking her numbers and treating her as well as the needs of a brand new baby. T1 needs a cure and here is a tremendous experience that Sydney gets to be part of. :) We are so proud of her and our whole family.
