Syd's winning essay. Why I Love My Mom...

We had a very nice surprise in Sydney's homework folder today. A couple weeks ago, a local jewelry store sent out fliers to the local school district. It was an essay contest for kids in 1st through 5th grade about why you love your mother.

Sydney was trying to ask us what she should write about but, obviously, we told her to think about all the reasons she loves her mom and write it down. I could have come up with a million reasons why she should love me--it's not hard-- however we figured the essay would be better as an original work of a 7 1/2 year old rather than her 27 year old mom. :) (We can't forget to add that 1/2 a year to her age. The "1/2" is very important when you are only 7 years old.)

We didn't look at the essay before she turned it in. I saw the finished product today when she came home from school. She had a winning essay that she wrote straight from her heart. (I will also add the winning prize is a gemstone from the sponsoring jewelry company valued at $300!)

I scanned in the essay so you could read it as well. She is going to do great in DC this summer as a JDRF advocate. She is a special little girl with a heart of gold. Enjoy her essay.

Why my little 1st grader loves her mamma....

It's amazing how quickly they grow from a completely dependent baby to a half grown little girl with a huge weight on her shoulders in the form of Type 1 Diabetes...and she still manages to smile and laugh all the time.

We love you Sydney-Beany-Weeny and we are so proud of you!!

Shamae this was so touching. She is so sweet and you can just tell how much she loves you :)

I know it will probably make no difference to you at this point BUT our house guests have pushed back their trip until September so we will have no one visiting in June. We live 12 miles south of DC in Northern Virginia and are on the end of the blue metro line.

We would be happy to have your family stay if you all want to come. Our home is not huge but we have 3 bathrooms and a good size basement as well s middle floor.

Just thought I would let you know.
